About Precision Piano

More than 40 years of piano care, craftsmanship and service.

A Tradition of Excellence

Precision Piano was founded in 1984 by Frank Fischer after he graduated from the North Bennet Street School Piano Technology program in Boston.

Frank began serving individual clients and concert halls throughout Western North Carolina before moving to Indiana, where Precision Piano focused exclusively on piano rebuilding for several years. In 1999, Precision Piano found its permanent home in Midcoast Maine.

For more than four decades, our work restoring pianos, rebuilding actions and providing regular piano service has allowed us to continually refine our methods and develop a deep understanding of the piano as both a precision instrument and a piece of craftsmanship.

Piano Tuning, Repair & Restoration

Precision Piano provides professional piano service for individual clients as well as concert halls, music schools and other musical institutions throughout Midcoast and Downeast Maine.

Our work includes piano tuning, repairs, regulation, voicing, rebuilding and complete restoration. We believe that every tuning deserves concert-level service, and we give every piano the same care and attention regardless of where it is located or how it is used.

At each appointment, we look beyond the immediate reason for the service call. When there are opportunities to improve the piano through regulation, voicing, repair or more extensive rebuilding, we explain those options clearly so that our clients can make informed decisions about their instruments.

Trusted by Musicians and Institutions

Precision Piano cares for instruments throughout Midcoast Maine, including pianos at Kneisel Hall, Bay Chamber Concerts, Field Note Music School and the Camden Opera House.

Our individual clients are equally important to us. We consider our clients part of the Precision Piano family and go out of our way to make sure every person is happy with their piano and confident in its care.

North Bennet Street School & Professional Training

Frank Fischer graduated from the North Bennet Street School Piano Technology program in Boston, where he developed the technical foundation for a career in piano tuning, repair, rebuilding and restoration.

Precision Piano is also a certified technician for Steinway Spirio pianos. This specialized training is uncommon in Maine, and Precision Piano is one of only a small number of technicians in the state with this qualification.

We are also Registered Piano Technicians through the Piano Technicians Guild. The RPT credential requires passing examinations in aural tuning as well as technical regulation and repairs.

The Piano Technicians Guild also provides an important source of continuing education, allowing us to refine our skills and stay current with developments and standards in the profession.

A New Generation

In 2026, Will Borchard joined Precision Piano after graduating from the same North Bennet Street School Piano Technology program that Frank attended four decades earlier.

Will is also a Registered Piano Technician and is working under Frank's mentorship, refining the same high standards of tuning, repair, regulation and restoration that have guided Precision Piano for more than 40 years.

The result is a continuation of the craftsmanship and service that have defined Precision Piano since 1984, with a new generation bringing those standards forward.

Wally — Dedicated Piano Moving

A piano move requires more than strength. It requires planning, attention, patience and an understanding of how to protect a delicate instrument while navigating the challenges of each location.

Wally is Precision Piano's dedicated piano mover, bringing piano-moving experience and a careful, diligent approach to every move. Whether a piano needs to come up a steep incline, navigate a flight of stairs, or make its way through a challenging doorway or tight space, Wally takes the time to work out the safest way to get the instrument where it needs to go.

Our goal is simple: to move your piano safely, carefully and with the same respect we give the instrument once it is in our care.
