Complete Piano Restoration

Expert piano restoration and rebuilding backed by more than 40 years of craftsmanship and experience.

Giving a Piano New Life

A fine piano can be much more than a musical instrument. It may be a family heirloom, a historically significant instrument, or simply a piano with exceptional musical potential that deserves to be preserved.

Complete piano restoration can address the structural, mechanical, cosmetic, and musical systems of an instrument. With more than four decades of experience rebuilding and restoring pianos, Precision Piano approaches each instrument individually, taking its condition, history, construction, and musical potential into account.

We work extensively with fine instruments from manufacturers including Steinway & Sons, Mason & Hamlin, Yamaha, Bechstein, Blüthner, Chickering, and Baldwin, along with many other makes and models.

Complete Piano Rebuilding & Restoration

A successful restoration requires more than replacing worn parts. Each component must work together as part of the instrument's larger mechanical and musical system.

Depending on the piano, restoration may include rebuilding the action, restoring or replacing the soundboard and bridges, restringing, pinblock work, dampers and pedals, cabinet refinishing, and complete regulation and voicing.

The goal is to preserve what makes the instrument distinctive while restoring the structure, responsiveness, stability, and musical character that allow the piano to perform at its highest potential.

Our Piano Restoration Process

1. Piano Evaluation

We examine the instrument's structure, action, soundboard, bridges, pinblock, finish, strings, and other major components to understand its present condition and restoration potential.

2. Restoration Planning

Every piano has different needs. We discuss the condition of the instrument, the desired result, and the appropriate scope of work before significant restoration begins.

3. Rebuilding & Restoration

Restoration work is carried out with careful attention to the original design and construction of the instrument, from structural rebuilding to action work, restringing, cabinet restoration, and other necessary repairs.

4. Regulation, Tuning & Voicing

Once the physical restoration is complete, the piano is carefully regulated, tuned, and voiced to bring the mechanical response and musical character together.

Is Restoration Right for Your Piano?

Not every older piano needs complete restoration. In some cases, careful repair, regulation, or rebuilding of specific components may be enough to return an instrument to excellent playing condition.

If you are considering restoring an older Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Yamaha, Bechstein, Blüthner, Chickering, Baldwin, or another piano, we can evaluate the instrument and discuss what restoration can realistically accomplish.
